Image Analysis
For this project, I chose a piece of contemporary design to analyze in relation to the various artistic and design movements throughout history. From the Blues Brother movie poster, designed by Olly Moss, I identified visual components referencing aspects of the Plakatstil, Sachplakat, and Suprematism movements, as well as the Post-Industrial and Digital Revolution eras.

Written Exercises: Exhibition Response and Research Paper
Solar Powered Paper Dolls Exhibition Response
Research Paper
These are two writing assignments from History of Graphic Design. The first example is a response to a gallery exhibition held in the St. Edward's Fine Arts Gallery during the fall 2010 semester. The essay details my general reactions and observations from visiting the exhibit. The second example is the research paper component of the course. My assigned topic was labeled as "The Art and Act of Persuasion Design," and investigates the development of persuasion design through history.

Fair Trade Chocolate Activity Booklet
Fair Trade Book 2
The objective of this project was to organize and design a children’s activity booklet with content that coincided with an interactive educational program that introduces children to fair trade resources. Basic project constraints included designing an age-appropriate booklet that was informative and cost effective to print by both distributors and individuals taking part in the program.

Instructional Design: How to tie your shoes
How_To_Book
A form of instructional design, this book was designed to help children learn to tie their shoes. The book included an interactive component so the child could practice while reading through the instructions and learning the various steps involved.
Locating Place: East Side Book
Locating Place: Lynch Text
Locating Place: Grody Text
Built from the text of two authors, Kevin Lynch and Steve Grody, this book focuses on the eastern region of Austin, Texas. Broken down into two components, the book highlights Austin’s east side from two very different perspectives: architect v. community. Cities are continuously developing and changing. Springing from this concept, I wanted to explore the the roles that different groups have in city development; the notion that the community is just as influential as the architect and that design does not end with the professional.

Recipe Website
As a Dreamweaver introduction, I was instructed to choose a recipe and create a website based on the content of the recipe. I chose a recipe for banana nut bread chocolate chip muffins. The site, while very basic, includes a rollover image, text and image links, and an image map. To visit the website online, follow this URL: http://myweb.stedwards.edu/rwilliaa/

Blanton Museum of Art Commemorative Buttons
These buttons were designed to represent the Dada movement. They were created to coincide with a fictitious History of Graphic Design exhibition at the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, Texas. I designed six buttons (one for each day of the week the museum is open to the public) intended to be distributed to guests during the exhibition.
